’The Essentials’

 

  • Non-binding introductory meeting.

  • Minimum of 3 prenatal visits (approx. 2,5 hours per session), consisting of:

  • Offering personalized emotional, practical and physiological (bodywork) support to prepare you and partner for labor and birth with knowledge, confidence and trust.

  • Information about your options for labor and birth.

  • Information on hormones and physiology in labor and birth. 

  • Guidance and support to help you create your birth plan.

  • Guidance with a framework, practical tools and resources to support you and partner to transition from partners to parents, postpartum.

  • Guidance with a framework, practical tools, and resources to support you to navigate your transition into motherhood.

  • Information and guidance to help you creating your postpartum plan.

  • Available for you by telephone and email throughout your pregnancy.

  • Pregnancy massage around week 38 / 39.

  • Additional consultation and bodywork in case of breech & transverse lie.

  • On call for you day & night from week 37 onwards.

  • Continuous labour and birth support regardless of the duration and place. 

  • One postpartum visit offering you continued personalised support and a space to process your birthing experience.

  • Photographic record of your labor and birth.

Insurance companies in the Netherlands that in reimburse (in part) fees for a Doula:

Salland: Reimbursement of 100 euro with the 'Plus' and 'Top' insurance packages.
HollandZorg: Reimbursement of 100 euro with the 'Plus' and 'Top' insurance packages.
ZorgDirect: Reimbursement of 100 euro with the 'Plus' and 'Top' insurance packages.

The following insurance companies reimburse costs towards a pregnancy course (offered as part of the doula service 'Package I')

CZ: Reimbursement of 200 euro with the 'Top' and 'Gezinnen' packages.
Delta Lloyd: Reimbursement of 200 euro in the extra package.
Ditzo: Reimbursement of 75% of the amount, up to a maximum of 400 euro, with the 'Zorg best' package.
OHRA: Reimbursement of 200 euro in the extra package.
Unive: Reimbursement of 75 euro with the 'Beter' package and 100 euro with the 'Best' package.

Note: Always check with your insurance company for the latest information and read all fine print carefully. The usual terms and conditions include that the doula is a member of the 'Nederlandse Beroepsvereniging van Doula's' and has a AGB code. I meet both of these conditions.

’The 11th hour’
(38 weeks onwards)

 

  • One prenatal consultation.

  • Available to you day & night from the moment of booking onwards.

  • Continuous labour and birth support regardless of duration and place. 

  • One postpartum visit.

Individual Sessions

 

Breech & Transverse Lie consultations, using Spinning Babies® in combination with Rebozo Manteada techniques to relax tight uterine ligaments and abdominal muscles, and help baby rotate in pregnancy more easily.

* I have been thought this technique by Spinning Babies® educators Gail Tully and Jennifer Walker. Spinning Babies® has made a commitment to give back 1% of profits to activities that support the Rebozo as used by Indingeous peoples and for causes that aim to reduce birth disparities amongst Black and Indigenous communities. Similarly, Doula Praktijk Rotterdam Zuid has made the commitment to give 1% of all Breech and Traverse Lie consultations to causes that support the Rebozo as used by Indingeous peoples and for causes that aim to reduce birth disparities amongst Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.

The Rebozo & Indigenous Peoples and Birthworkers from Mexico, Central and some parts of South America

“The Rebozo is a special woven cloth, woven by indigenous weavers generation after generation. The Rebozo is a cultural emblem as well as an artifact of women’s ceremony and daily life. The beautiful traditions of using an authentic Mexican Rebozo are handed down from mother to daughter and midwife to midwife.

Manteada is the Spanish name of the Rebozo technique used by Mexican midwives. The Mexican midwife Ximena Rojas García describes it as a gentle sifting technique, like a rhythmic jiggle. It can be done for pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and even fertility. (Ximena Rojas García, Spinning Babies website).

‘Closing of the Bones & Befriending the Mother’ Rite

 

From six weeks postpartum onwards, it is possible for the new mother to participate in the ‘Closing of the Bones & Befriending the Mother’ rite, specifically designed to help 'close' the new mother energetically after pregnancy and the intense process of labor.

This practice…

  • Aims to support your process of transitioning into motherhood and starting to discover your identity as a mother.

  • Creates space for your particular ‘cocktail of emotions’ whether joy, sadness, anger, jubilance, rage, ambivalence, gratefulness, or indeed other.

  • Can be used to mark -or ‘close’ and leave ‘behind’- that which has been and start gently moving ‘forward’ with intention and direction, compassion and kindness. (As such this ceremony can also be carried out at other times in one’s life, when moving through significant liminal spaces).

  • Can be used to acknowledge, honor, explore, or simply ‘sit with’ your maternal experience and emotions in a safe space, and in a grounded manner, whilst being guided by doula Deirdre and doula Marlies. 

  • Lasts approximately 3 hours (from your arrival to being ready to go home again).

  • Is not a replacement for professional mental health care. As professional doulas we have a duty of care to your well-being at all times. Hence before booking this service, we always schedule a consultation with you to map your pregnancy- / labor-/ birth- / postpartum- experience, and your motivation and intention before booking the ceremony.
